In this conversation I caught up with New York-based singer-songwriter, Adam Aronson. Aronson's predominantly acoustic based work blends introspective lyricism that explores themes such as hope and loss. I asked Aronson about his latest single 'Rock Bottom' and the meaning behind the song in addition to his plans for the rest of 2022.
Hi Adam, thank you for taking the time to do this interview. How are you?
Great thank you.
Could you briefly introduce yourself to those who may not know you or your music?
I have been playing music for most of my life and only last year released my first few songs. I’ve been gratified and touched by the reactions I have received.
What inspired you to pursue a career in the music industry?
When I first started playing I found a way to express myself with songs and musical ideas that had been within me since I was a kid.
Who do you consider to be your musical influences?
There are many but would definitely include Elliott Smith, Richard Ashcroft, David Bowie, Todd Rundgren, John Lennon, and Ozzy Osbourne
How would you describe your music?
Melodic and Immersive, I like to think it takes the listener inside the song and story and keeps their attention as they relate to it in their own personal way.
You have recently released your new single ‘Rock Bottom’ which you have previously described as “finding a feeling of hope and limitless possibility whilst also living through a moment of rock-bottom acceptance.” What can you tell us about the meaning and inspiration behind the song?
Like most people, I have had some tragic moments in the past. My way of getting through it involved accepting how depressive feelings can be therapeutic if you can find the right balance between acceptance and the feeling of knowing a positive outlook can change everything.
Could you tell us a bit about the recording process behind ‘Rock Bottom’?
I started the process by recording it in demo form on my Phone, Most of the acoustic and vocal tracks were recorded at Spin Studios in New York. I recorded the electric guitars, and piano in my home studio in Astoria, Queens.
This track was recorded early this year, did this song come about quickly for you in terms of writing and recording or was ‘Rock Bottom’ a song that you had been wanting to record for some time?
The song was written rather quickly. Because of the pandemic, I only played it live a time or two but I felt I had many ideas that could be brought to life in the recording.
What are your plans for the rest of 2022? Do you have any gigs lined up over the summer?
Yes I will be announcing them soon but I will be playing around the city in July and August.
Could you recommend some of your current favourite songs to our readers?
2:45 AM- Elliott Smith, Now That I’ve Found You-Liam Gallagher, Weeping Willow-The Verve
What advice would you give to a musician who is just starting to break into the music industry?
Stay true to yourself and remember why you are doing it and what it means to you.
What is the best advice that you have received?
With a positive mindset and perseverance you become the best you can be.
Finally, do you have a message for your fans?
Thank you so much for the support, love, and kind words you have shared about my songs. The best is yet to come!
