Released in February 2021, 'Animal' is a single packed with catchy energetic hooks and captivating hip hop inspired beat rhythms. For those who have been following my blog for a while you may recognise the name 'EXILE TRIBE' from my single reviews of Generations from EXILE TRIBE and The Rampage from EXILE TRIBE.
For those unfamiliar with J-pop and the artist management company LDH, EXILE TRIBE is the collective name for the male dance groups signed under the company founded by EXILE performer, Hiro. Within EXILE TRIBE exists individual divisions that showcase different genres and vary in size.
The BALLSTIK BOYZ from EXILE TRIBE are one of the most recently formed divisions having debuted in 2019 with their first debut album and small scale nationwide tour. So what differs BALLISTIK BOYZ from other EXILE groups? Well...first main difference is that all members sing and perform. Whilst this may seem like a common occurrence within K-pop groups like BTS and Black Pink, this is a feature that isn't as prevalent in J-pop groups. With Generations and The Rampage each having either two or three vocalists, BALLISTIK BOYZ all feature on their singles, including 'Animal'.
"I'm a wild, wild animal
I can't control it, 脱ぎ散らかすフロアに
Wild, wild animal
正気じゃいられない"
This track is a strong pop single that is easy to access and takes influence from Western hip-hop and electro-pop. The accompanying visuals are perfectly synchronised and showcases the young talent with their confident vocal performance and sharp choreography instantly capturing the listener's attention. I only just became introduced to their music but their singles including 'Last Dance Ni Bye Bye' suggests this group is only going to continue to grow in popularity over the next few years.
