'Claire' EP by GLASGOW

Claire is the brand new EP from Puerto Rico based indie-rock band GLASGOW.

The EP begins with an upbeat introduction featuring syncopated rhythms and shoegaze melodies reminiscent of Foals' early discography. The riffs interweave leading into the second track 'Golden Sophism', the debut single from Glasgow.

This track once again thrives from the high-energy beats present in the intro and feels like a summer anthem perfect for the festival season. The catchy lead guitar hooks the listener and maintains momentum throughout the sections. I particularly like the instrumental breaks that allow space for the melodies to take centre stage, giving time for the vocals to step back. The third track 'Gloom' has a moody atmosphere, an aptly titled track with sombre lyricism. This track has a Hippo Campus soundscape, with the instruments used similar to those found on 'Landmark'. GLASGOW certainly have established that classic indie-rock sound, something that takes a long time to polish and perfect. 'Claire' provides a good bridge between the two halves of the EP, cementing the tracks as a whole body of work. 'Noir' is the penultimate track on the album, this sounds a bit like Klaxon's 'Golden Skans', with the backing harmonies complimenting the main guitar. The EP concludes with the final track 'Romania' and is the most diverse track on the album. Overall, this EP establishes GLASGOW'S sound as an indie-rock band; it is a solid foundation to build upon and I'm interested to see how their sound will develop with time.
