TRACE is a singer-songwriter based in LA, her new single Cool Woman blends dreamy vocals with lyrics that are assertive and bold.
“This song is for every woman who knows her worth.
Who at times has been made to feel ‘a bit crazy’ for feeling the way she does.
BUT, in reality, she has the right to and is also too good and cool for whoever she is at times fights for the affection and attention for.” – TRACE (taken from Genius)
I discovered TRACE'S music this week, and this song immediately caught my attention. The track begins with the vocals gliding over a light drum beat, later accompanied by synths and additional backing vocals creating a warm tone in the chorus.
From listening to Cool Woman for the very first time, one thing that stood out was TRACE's lyricism. The questioning nature of the chorus feels direct and assertive, with TRACE exploring the feeling of not being appreciated by someone and being taken for granted. The video for Cool Woman directed by TRACE and Claire Thomas, features the singer directly staring into the camera, making the listener empathise with her character as she wanders alone through the different scenes.
"Would it hurt your pretty eyes
If you looked right into mine
And told me all the things you like
About me"
Cool Woman is a fantastic single from TRACE and I am excited to hear what she releases next!
