Maddie Regent's new EP 'Girl of Your Dreams', combines electro-pop melodies with heart-wrenching lyrics. The project is deeply personal and reflective and develops the indie-pop production introduced throughout 'Miss Regent' (2021) , taking the listener through a story of deceit, heartache, and conflict.
The EP consists of eight tracks that read like personal diary entries that capture stories wrapped in heartbreak and regret. The listener is invited to delve into the complexities of the persona's innermost thoughts and experiences as Maddie's warm vocals paint a vivid visual story, ranging from the heavy club beats in 'Buy her a drink' to the hyperpop world of 'SIDE FX' (which is one of my personal favourite songs of 2023).
Regent's lyrics explore the complexities of a toxic relationship, delving into the psychological impact of trauma, guilt, and gaslighting. The cathartic tone that saturates the production and vocals builds up as a powerful release, concluding the EP with 'ruining' that showcases Maddie's strength as a songwriter and an artist who can deeply connect with their audience. 'Girl of Your Dreams' is by far one of my favourite releases of 2023, an immersive and therapeutic experience that leaves a lasting impression upon the listener.
