'Labels' by Cade Hoppe

If we define labels as "a classifying phrase or name applied to a person or thing, especially one that is inaccurate or restrictive", Hoppe's new single boldly challenges this definition, instead finding confidence in the freedom of being undefined and free of restrictive labels.

"But it doesn’t seem fatal
I’m getting comfortable
With being unstable..."

Like Cade Hoppe's previous singles, 'Labels' continues to channel the growth and confidence that deviates from the raw and vulnerable tone of 'Everything That's Wrong With You'. The production echoes the upbeat instrumentation of 'On My Way Down' but introduces warm layered synths that surround Hoppe's baritone vocals. Lyrically, Hoppe is defiant against being labelled, finding comfort in being "halfway fool...halfway clown", conveying an almost light-hearted tone that juxtaposes the otherwise assertive lyricism. The contrasts of dark and light in 'Labels' makes Hoppe such an intriguing artist; someone who can articulate feelings of discomfort and weakness but cleverly utilises it for growth, self-confidence and empathy. 'Labels' is a single that demonstrates an introspective artist who is not afraid of being honest with themselves, once again cementing Hoppe as an exciting and unique upcoming indie-artist and one you should check out.
