'Selene' is the brand new single from London-based indie musician, Monelise. The single follows the highly experimental track 'Blackbird's Breath', with both singles set to feature on Monelise's forthcoming second LP 'Sanctify My Love'.
'Selene' was the first song written for Monelise's second LP, with the lyrics evoking the spirit of the Greek Goddess, Selene. What I love about this single is the distorted production and haunting melodies that follow the main vocals. The dissonant vocal line alongside the hushed cello accompaniment cleverly tap into the soundscape of Monelise's album 'Hauntology' mirroring songs like 'Fall Again' but with a broader variety of electronic instrumentation. Influenced by visionary artists including Kate Bush and Nick Cave, 'Selene' is an ambitious single that doesn't follow a conventional musical structure but continuously challenges the listener's expectations. This is what makes this track standout, with avant-garde production that places Monelise as an artist who isn't afraid of moving between genres and creating music that is imaginative and thought-provoking.
