Sakanaction are a Japanese band from Hokkaido, Japan. Their music blends several different genres, creating a fusion that makes their sound very unique and hard to categorize.
The band consists of members Ichiro Yamaguchi, Motoharu Iwadera, Ami Kusakari, Emi Okazaki, and Keiichi Ejima. I discovered this band during the summer, and have been listening to their music on repeat.
Their single 'Tabun Kaze' features on their most recent album titled '834.194' released back in 2019.
'Tabun Kaze' sees the band move towards a more electronic sound, with a heavy synth line that accompanies a funky off-beat bass riff and thumping drums. The track opens with a soaring synth melody and staccato strings, then introduces the distorted synth chords. As the song progresses, Ichiro Yamaguchi's vocals bring a warm tone to the soundscape, building up a crescendo to the main chorus.
The momentum continues to build but then dissipates at the bridge, giving space for another crescendo to the final chorus. I like how the sections differ, allowing room for experimentation and growth. 'Tabun Kaze' is a high energy song and demonstrates the band's talent of seamlessly blending different genres.
If you liked this song, I would highly recommend checking out their discography and make sure you check out their live performance of 'Tabun Kaze' from sakanaction's tenth anniversary special.
