'[01] Bleak Suburbs Sleep Below' by datshredboi (Album Review)

(A message from datshredboi)

"I'm a Birmingham based composer and multi-instrumentalist. Creating soundscapes that you can lose yourself in, worlds in my music that you can go to escape day to day life. Passionate about what I do, I am always trying to cultivate a cinematic and visual sound into my art. Being constantly inspired by artists such as John Carpenter and Primus, as well as local Birmingham acts, incorporating these influences into my music with cinematic writing and the use of dissonance are defining features of my sound."

This is the debut album from Birmingham-based composer datshredboi. '[01] Bleak Suburbs Sleep Below' features ten instrumental tracks mixed by Grammy award winner Jeff Sojka, experimenting with samples and cinematic soundscapes, making this the perfect soundtrack for Halloween.

The samples create a tense atmosphere that helps emphasise the dissonant feeling that underlies the album. Structurally the tracks effortlessly flow and encourage the listener to immerse themselves in the different sounds and audio samples. The absence of vocals or predictable melody makes this album incredibly intriguing and keeps the listener hooked from beginning to end. As a body of work, this album feels like a piece of art. Every time you listen to the tracks, you discover something new and just like a film, you can temporarily escape and delve into a new world. This is definitely one of the most unique submissions I've had submitted to my blog, but I highly enjoyed losing myself in the different soundscapes.

Favourite tracks from the album: NIGHTDANCE/Nightmare in Belmount Falls, RETURN OF THE BLUE SPIRIT:, TALES OF THE SUPERNATURAL AND THE UNFORESEEN.
