'Coda' is the new single from San Diego-based singer-songwriter Christine Sako. I caught up with Christine last February where we discussed their then-latest single 'Sediments', a bright, synth-based track that showcased a highly experimental soundscape. The following release 'Seasoned' followed 'Sediments' production style and captured Sako's growing confidence as an artist. Three months later; Christine Sako is back with a brand new single titled 'Coda', a track that incorporates an indie-pop structure with colourful synth melodies.
The song begins with a muffled introduction featuring a gritty guitar strummed pattern that builds anticipation leading to the chorus. The production predominantly focuses on the vocals with catchy lyrics accompanied by a synth riff that provides a nice instrumental break linking the chorus to the following verse. Compared to Sako's previous work, 'Coda' feels like a fun, indie-pop song with the heavy bass line stylistically reminiscent of some production techniques used in Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Emotion' album. A highlight from the track is the bridge that features some gorgeous vocal harmonies and soaring high harmonies leading to the final section that suddenly transitions into a heavier pop/dance soundscape. 'Coda' is incredibly different from the songwriter's previous work with a heavy focus on pop production and catchy hooks, but it is certainly my favourite Christine Sako song so far.
