'Falling Down to the Earth' is the brand new EP from singer-songwriter/producer I Am Snow Angel, a collection of meditative songs created during the pandemic.
The EP features four tracks each with its unique stylistic features that guide the listener through an immersive and surreal soundscape. From beginning to end the collection of songs provides a temporary escape from the stress of modern life.
The title track begins with a whirling organ synth and electronic strings that become layered with a range of sounds. The main vocals are beautifully produced providing a contrasting dreamy melody that adds texture to the instrumental. The lyrics are repeated but the subtle addition of the bass and percussion helps to maintain the listener's interest building momentum to the final section. The song ends on a fantastic instrumental section that soars with the chopped vocals and layered synths adding rich tones to the main melody. 'Falling Down to the Earth' is followed by 'Find My Love' a delicate track that slowly unravels with a heavy bassline and distorted vocals. The track introduces a plethora of electronic sounds with experimental vocal production that enhances the atmospheric synths that accompany the main melody.
Similarly ' I See Your Face (in the Strangest Places)' forms an almost dystopian setting with the eerie mallet chiming in the backdrop as the intimate vocals are placed at the forefront of the production. The concluding track featured on the EP is titled 'Joseph'; with reverbed piano and a full string section, this is a beautiful song that feels warm and grounded. From beginning to end the listener falls through the tracks travelling in a dreamy soundscape and when we finally land at the end of the EP we are left wanting more. I Am Snow Angel has crafted a fantastic EP that showcases her unique style and talent for designing immersive soundscapes. This is the perfect soundtrack for those days when you're feeling the lockdown blues. At times it felt like I was reading a book, becoming lost in a mysterious world where the stress of modern life temporarily disappeared. This is a triumphant body of work and I look forward to hearing what I Am Snow Angel releases next.
