After taking a break in 2021, Manchester-based musician Jack Hyphen is back with his latest single 'Flee', an introspective track that marks a new chapter for the indie-singer songwriter.
If you've been following Hyphen's music for a while, you may be familiar with 'Flee' as it was originally released seven years ago as a demo on Soundcloud. This new recorded version carries the ambience of the demo adding percussion and crisp production that boosts the overall tone of the track, making this a fantastic recording of the original demo. With soulful melodic guitar hooks and breezy vocals, 'Flee' has a distinctive sound unique to Hyphen's discography. Written seven years ago, the song has a slight nostalgic feel with the track commencing in an acoustic setting that isolates the vocals and sets the tone for the chorus. A highlight of 'Flee' is the layered vocal harmonies that flourish in the instrumental break, reminiscent of the ambient soundscapes by indie-bands like Island. After taking a short break from releasing music, Hyphen has shown that he is ready to take on whatever challenges he faces in the next chapter of his career. 'Flee' is a song about coming to terms with the past and explores themes that will resonate with many listeners. I am excited to hear what Hyphen releases next and would highly recommend checking out his EP 'Second Wave' and 'Flee', which you can listen to on my Spotify Reviews Playlist (link in bio).
