'foolish thinking' by Kimbra ft. Ryan Lott

Kimbra's latest single is a beautiful poetic depiction of motherhood, with warm acoustic production and cinematic visuals making this an experimental track that hints at the versatile collection of songs set to feature on her upcoming album 'A Reckoning'. Featuring Son Lux's Ryan Lott, 'foolish thinking' adds another dimension to Kimbra's incredibly versatile discography that chart her career as a songwriter who has wealth of experience both as a global star following her collaboration with Gotye but also as an indie artist. For me, this is what makes Kimbra a unique and interesting artist.

"Anyone can tell you that I'm no faint of heart
I'll fight fire with fire, for the ones that I love
Like a broken needle, I can't penetrate the skin
Feel I'm on the outside looking in..."

Accompanied by nostalgic cinematic visuals, the track charts a mother who recognises her limitations in being able to protect her daughter, with the lyrics depicting the ups and downs of growing up. Described by Kimbra as a song that is for her 'one day future child', the song not only immerses the listener in its acoustic production but makes us pause and listen to the lyrics that chart the obstacles that one encounters throughout life. Compared to the bold production of 'Replay', 'foolish thinking' has an ethereal tone that leaves the listener in deep contemplation.
