'Hurts' is the latest single from New York-based indie singer-songwriter, Cade Hoppe. Having released his debut EP 'Tell Me How It's Worth It', Hoppe returns with a reflective track that marks a new chapter in his career.
It is about 'experiencing that strange post-relationship purgatory for the first time and realizing that anyone you love is going to hurt to lose, whether you were both meant to be or not. The thesis of this song is: 'It's not easy losing somebody, it always hurts.'- Cade Hoppe
I have been following Hoppe's work from 'Click Boom Run' to his most recent releases including his debut EP 'Tell Me How It's Worth It'. 'Hurts' shifts towards a new direction in sound, with the ambient instrumental providing a backdrop for Hoppe's baritone vocals. Compared to his previous work, 'Hurts' draws upon the memories of a past relationship, demonstrating maturity in the lyricism and melodies.

Whilst 'Tell Me How It's Worth It' places the listener in a narrative of heartbreak and raw emotion, 'Hurts' has a more reflective tone that presents an individual who has found strength after separation. Produced by Hoppe's frequent collaborator, Harper James, the track has layers of warm sounds that add momentum to the song whilst maintaining Hoppe's distinct style. I look forward to hearing how Hoppe's future releases will continue this theme and mark a new chapter in his career.
