Becca Mancari is an American indie-folk singer-songwriter based in Nashville. Her single ‘I’m Sorry’ was released on the 18th November and is featured on her album ‘The Greatest Part’
The apologetic opening of the track features Mancari framed in a black and white background, accompanied by a high-toned drum metre and guitar. The sequence of visual shots and the lighting throughout the video makes this song feel intimate with Mancari directly addressing her listener. The minimalist instrumentalization draws focus on the lyrics that are repeatedly stressed throughout the duration of the song.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm not done yet
Do you know your body anymore?
Does it haunt you every night?"
The chorus introduces an ascending melodic guitar that is interrupted by a synth line that copies the main vocals with Mancari softly humming along. As the song progresses, the seemingly apologetic line of ‘I’m Sorry’ becomes an unapologetic statement that conveys a sense of determinism and focused movement. The visuals for this song uses stark contrasts of black and white, and this simple artistic decision enhances the melodies haunting tone.
I am so glad I stumbled across Becca Mancari’s music, and I think this must be one of my favourite music videos released this year.
