[I Wanna Be There] is the brand new EP from singer-songwriter Jensyn. I have been following Jensyn's work for the past year with the release of their single [Homesick] and [Rooftop], both dreamy singles that laid the foundation for the Birmingham/Liverpool based musician.
[I Wanna Be There] is a collection of four tracks that explores themes of escapism, nicely following Jensyn's previous work but with a strong focus on instrumental. The opening track and title of the EP slowly layers a range of synth sounds, guided by Jensyn's warm vocals that envelop the listener with ethereal harmonies.
[The Perfect Escape] samples news reports covering the pandemic, a haunting reminder of the hardships we have all faced these past two years. This track introduces plucked harps and predominantly string instrumental, placed in a spacious soundscape that slowly erupts into a cinematic masterpiece. This track is reminiscent of music by some of my favourite film composers like Joe Hisaishi. It has a certain cinematic quality that paints visuals for the listener.
[Not Quite Right] follows through with the orchestral accompaniment, creating space for the listener to reflect and temporarily escape reality. [Breaking the Static] has a gorgeous piano chordal accompaniment and displays Jensyn's passion for composing music for film. Every track on [I Wanna Be There] flows into each other with seamless transitions and sounds that showcase a range of tones and textures. This is a fantastic EP and one I will be playing on repeat.
