'Lamplig' is the brand new single from Scottish musician Uncle Kid, a folk/hip-hop inspired song that blends spoken word with dark visuals. Described by Uncle Kid as a song that charts "a lonely wander through Ikea", depicting an individual experiencing an existential crisis; the steady instrumental balances with the lyrics that portray someone in turmoil. What I like about Uncle Kid's music is how it draws upon the mundane moments in life; but delves deep into the thoughts of its persona, touching upon themes of solitude and reflection.
'Lamplig' is the second single to be taken from Uncle Kid's EP 'Indistinct Chatter', released in February. Overall, the song highlights the Scottish musician's unique sound and style, with a stark lyrical form that tells the alienating story of modern life. The accompanying music video sees Uncle Kid building IKEA furniture in the woods, reflecting upon the song's narrative with a strong chiaroscuro effect.
