My Favourite Lockdown Artists PT.1

One thing I've noticed during lockdown is that my musical taste has completely changed. Over the past year, I've had more time to explore new music and the blog has also helped me to discover new artists.

Here are some songs from my favourite lockdown artists; I have listened to the following songs hundreds of times and they remain my firm favourites!

1.Sakanaction

I think Sakanaction are such an underrated band; their music fuses a variety of genres with complex melodies and lyrics that capture the listener's imagination. I have watched this live performance of 'Tabun Kaze' a thousand times, and I am blown away by how good the band sound in their live concerts. I'm always apprehensive that the live performance won’t live up to the recorded version, but this performance is truly spectacular. I would love to see Sakanaction live; this song reminds me of those long summer days during the first lockdown. It feels nostalgic listening back to this song, but it’s filled with good memories.

2. Genie High

A band consisting of comedians, ghostwriters and musicians, Genie High is a musical project brought together by singer-songwriter Enon Kawatani. Kawatani is currently actively working in four different bands, whilst producing for several Japanese artists. This project cleverly brings together a range of talented individuals, creating complex math-rock inspired melodies that are incredibly experimental. I have been enjoying their recent collaborations and I look forward to hearing their new album.

3. Da-iCE

If you have been following my blog since September, then you'll have probably noticed the name 'Da-iCE' pop up on multiple occasions. Having loved heavy rock and alternative music for so long, this genre of music is the complete opposite of what I used to listen to. This song reflects why I have grown to love this group. The live performance is funny and theatrical, with the lyrics telling the story of a guy who thought he was dating a girl but wakes up to discover he was dreaming the entire situation. I personally love artists who can make me laugh and this video of 'Date' is one of my favourite live performances. It is a reminder that music doesn’t always have to be serious; it’s important to have fun!

Make sure to check out all of the artists linked above!

PT.2 of my Favourite Lockdown Artists is coming soon! Stay Tuned...
