'On the phone with my mom' is the debut album from indie-singer-songwriter, Maddie Regent.
The album opens with the title which brings a tranquil introduction that immediately sets the reflective and daydream-like atmosphere of the tracks.
"Any Day Now," is a bright and uplifting indie-pop track, with its catchy melodic line and lightly strummed guitar chords. The chorus poignantly captures the emotional rollercoaster of growing up, highlighting the mix of excitement and anxiety that accompanies the uncertainty of making mistakes while navigating new experiences.
My personal favourite from the album is "Cutie," a gentle and soothing song that features beautifully rich piano accompaniment. The warm tones create a dreamlike ambiance, complementing the lyrics that explores the vulnerability of new relationships. The song delves into the importance of being open and honest with someone, embracing one's imperfections and flaws.
Overall, the album is a fantastic display of Maddie's evolving confidence as a songwriter, it really is a labour of love. Each track is infused with raw emotion, culminating in cathartic moments that resonate deeply with listeners. In particular, songs like "Fountain of Youth / Man Is a Knife" eloquently articulate the overwhelming release of buried and suppressed emotions, capturing the essence of longing and introspection. Through these collection of songs, Maddie invites us all to reflect on our journeys, embracing both the beauty and challenges of our lived experiences.
