in earnest are back with 'reasons to stay alive', a brand new EP featuring six tracks containing seamless transitions, producing a body of work that explore themes related to despair, gratitude and the climate crisis.
'reasons to stay alive' is the second EP from The Southend-On-Sea trio who blend folk-inspired melodies with personal lyrics that will resonate with many.
Since establishing the blog back in summer 2020, I have followed the band and have been delighted to watch them grow and experiment with their sound. Compared to their previous work, 'reasons to stay alive' actively engages with its listener, conveying a stream of consciousness and cyclical narrative that is engaging and thought-provoking. A highlight is 'Comforts of Home', a song that features a soaring instrumental section that forms a bridge midway through the EP. Despite the limited time spent recording the EP the attention to detail is flawless; with the band displaying their passion for creating music that openly discusses themes related to mental health and personal experiences. The seamless transitions keep the listener engaged and presents itself as a story with the persona processing their thoughts through melody. This EP is an accumulation of the sounds and stories that tie the band's discography; but is an incredible body of work that showcases in earnest's drive to create music that is inclusive and memorable.
