'Rock and a Hard Place' by We Wander

We Wander are back with their brand new single 'Rock and a Hard Place' a folk track with warm vocal harmonies and a string accompaniment that narrates the story of an individual who is in a state of stasis.

I had the pleasure of interviewing We Wander back in November 2020 and since then they have won Best New Group at the Mississauga Music and Canadian Music Week. Their new single 'Rock and a Hard Place' features a rich string section conducted by percussion that mirrors the rhythm of a heartbeat with the tones reminiscent of tracks featured in Taylor Swift's early discography. The lyricism complements the warm sounds that permeate throughout the track most notably in the bridge where Maddie's vocals bear the feeling of bewilderment and longing. This song builds upon the sounds explored in their previous releases but with a richer soundscape, I really love the balance in the instrumentation and how it guides the listener through the different sections. Overall, We Wander have created an emotional track that showcases their talent for telling stories through music; I look forward to hearing what they release next! Check out 'Rock and a Hard Place' in the link down below and on my Spotify reviews playlist.
