'To the Moon' is the debut EP from Welsh musician Hannah Paloma whose music heavily focuses on vocal melodies and introspective lyricism to create magical, folkloric music.
'Wolf Melody' is the opening track of 'To The Moon', a song that predominantly focuses on vocals and lightly strummed melodies. The steady bass rhythm nicely complements the vocal line, placing full emphasis on the lyrics and harmonies that mirrors a wolf's call. The minimalist production is refreshing and gently guides the listener into 'Out Loud'. This song has heavy folk-inspired instrumentation, accompanied by a sense of melancholia that saturates the vocals creating beautiful tones that reflect an almost ritualistic atmosphere. Sonically this EP evokes ambient Celtic melodies and showcases a stripped-back acoustic production that fits the mood of the five tracks. 'Roses' mirrors the minimalistic production in 'Wolf Melody' but with a string section and light percussion that feels intimate as the lyrics paints a nocturnal soundscape.
A highlight from the EP is the penultimate track 'Mynyddoedd' meaning 'Mountains' in Welsh. The cello and violin section is stunning and draws upon the Celtic influence as Paloma's Welsh lyricism evokes sombre imagery that leaves the listener in a trance. The final track and title of the EP 'To the Moon' carries the wonder and magic that permeates the EP, with the stillness of the melody capturing Hannah Paloma's unique musical style. Overall, this is an EP that charts a journey full of mystery and enchanting lyricism. What a promising release from the Welsh singer-songwriter; I can't wait to hear what Paloma releases next!
