'Voelas' by Taxi With Strangers

'Voelas' is the brand new single from Lancaster-based indie-rock band Taxi With Strangers. I have had the pleasure of interviewing and reviewing many of the band's releases and was excited to review their new single.

The track begins with an arpeggiated guitar chordal progression, accompanied by a warm bassline that provides some forward momentum leading into the chorus. The backing instrumental sounds like a blend of the band's previous discography but with new stylistic development. This track displays growth in the band's production; the vocals are clear and the backing instrumental remains balanced throughout the song. This song nicely links to 'Time' with its nostalgic melodies and coming of age themes that define Taxi With Stranger's sound as a band. If you're a fan of the band's previous singles then you will love 'Voelas', it doesn't stray far from the band's previous work but introduces subtle stylistic features that help to elevate and create a clean polished production that suggests the band's confidence in cementing their sound.

“Throughout most of 2019, I'd go down to Liverpool to visit my girlfriend when she was at uni. Over the summer, we’d stay at her flat on Voelas Street in Toxteth. I had this riff on the back burner at the time but couldn't think of any vocal melodies to fit the music. However, before lockdown, I showed Voelas to Dave and we were luckily able to finish the song. For me, the lyrics of this song remind me of that time with my girlfriend in Liverpool; going on nights out together, going to gigs, exploring the city, even just staying in the flat all day doing nothing. I feel like the vibes this track has makes it a song for summer.”- Jake Bellamy (TWS Guitarist)
