Rationale's voice is so unique and recognisable, and his passion for music really comes across in his melodies. I was lucky enough to see Rationale support Bastille back in 2016 during their Wild Wild World Tour, and he was honestly one of the best live acts I have ever seen.
His song 'Whiskey Regrets' featuring TS Graye really displays his talent as a singer/songwriter and producer. There is a really interesting video on his YouTube channel that shows how sampling can be used as a great starting point when it comes to creating a new song. The video shows Rationale using a hand recorder to sample the cycle noises of his washing machine, resulting in a groovy track that later becomes 'Whiskey Regrets'.
It is fascinating to watch Rationale translating his melodies from his thoughts to software. T S Graye's soft voice blends so well with Rationale's deep vocals, creating a nice balance in the song's overall tone. The addition of the electric guitar adds a nice hook going into the verses and pre-chorus, and in the bridge of the song you can hear the washing machine sample in the background. This song really shows that sampling can be an interesting way to experiment with sounds and get creative.
If you liked this song then I would highly recommend checking out his other work including my favourite song: 'Something For Nothing'.
