'ゾッコン' by Mono no Aware

Mono No Aware are a Japanese alternative rock band consisting of members, Shunhiro Tamaki, Narijun Kato, Ayako Takeda and Yutaka Yanagusawa. Tamaki and Kato met Takeda and Yanagisawa at university, where they later decided to form a band under their current name Mono No Aware. Their single 'ゾッコン' was released in September 2020 and features on the soundtrack for the anime 'Umibe no Etranger'.

Since their formation, Mono no Aware has released three albums and have performed at the renowned Fuji Rock Festival in 2016. Their most recent single titled "ゾッコン" displays the band's freestyle sound that explores themes related to growing up and youth. The steady percussion is complemented by the melodic runs from the lead guitar that imitates the lyrics exploration of the chaotic emotions associated with falling in love. The choice in muted pastel colours found in the visuals accompanying the track emphasises the warm, summery tones present in the instrumental. This feature is intrinsic to the band's overall image; making their songs look and sound nostalgic.

The music video follows an individual lost in crowded environments capturing the essence of the song's lyricism whilst following the storyline of the anime that features this song in its soundtrack. The track concludes with a cyclical imitation of the introduction, ending a story that is full of charisma and charm. Check out the song and the music video in the link above!
